Self-Help Book

You’re drowing
In shallow water
The only one who
Can save you is
Yourself.
All you have to do
Is stand up.
I promise you’ll be
Okay.

Poet's Madness

I live in a world of
Verses, Stanzas, Meter,
Rhymes, Metaphors,
Paradoxes, Alliteration,
Imagery, Irony, and Symbol
I escape to this palace of literature
I can’t handle real life
I thrive in this kingdom of writing
Sometimes it gets so lonely
Because I won’t let anyone else
Into my secret garden of words
But I don’t know how to
Live any other way

Serotonin, Dopamine, Acetylcholine

Put these chemicals
In my blood stream
I’ll even help you find the vein
I need another dose

Happiness, Satisfaction
What are those even?
I vaguely remember them from childhood
I need another dose

Love, Passion, Pleasure
I know plenty about those
I felt them when you took away my childhood
I don’t know if I want another dose

Learning, Memory, Dreaming
I can’t learn anything new
My memory is only filled with nightmares
All of my dreams are dead

I need another dose
I can’t feel these on my own
They’re just chemicals
That I can’t make myself anymore

Love Poem

I don’t know how to put
All these feelings into words
You make my brain all fuzzy
My stomach nervous

You’ve made my life
Into every romance movie cliché
What am I supposed to tell you
Without sounding like a fool?

I’m stumbling over words
Trying to find a perfect verse
I’ve tried to write this twice
I hope this will suffice

Eye of the Storm

You were my captain
I was you first mate
But when our voyage
Made for sinking ships
I had forgotten how to swim

You Say You're Not an Author

Tangle me in your words
Pull me into you with your verses
Recite your stanzas to me
Let me fall asleep to your paragraphs

Read me your favorite stories
Let’s write one together
Have me fall in love with your fiction
You tell me your words make no sense
But you’re a perfect poet to me

Vacant

It still hasn’t sunk in
That we’re not together
That you and I are no longer a we
That there is a you without a me

When I wake up, a part of me
Is still expecting you to be there
To tell me good morning,
Hope you slept well

When I go to bed, a part of me
Is still expecting a goodnight honey
For you to whisper sweet dreams
And kiss my forehead

You’ve been gone for quite some time
Enough time for me to find someone new
But I still find myself looking for you
In every crowded room
